Global Ties Detroit Names Faris Alami Chair of Board of Directors
    January 06, 2022

International Strategic Management, Inc. (ISM) Founder and CEO Faris Alami has been elected as the 2022 Chair of Global Ties Detroit's Board of Directors.

Faris Alami joined the Global Ties Detroit (then International Visitors Council of Metropolitan Detroit, Inc.) Board of Directors in May of 2008 and has been a vital advocate for Global Ties Detroit's international exchange programs. For over a decade, he has been involved as a professional resource, meeting with delegations to share his expertise on developing sustainable ecosystems for entrepreneurship to flourish and serving as a mentor for fellows (young English speaking entrepreneurs) from around the world.

He and his family have also welcomed delegations into their home for home hospitality, sharing meals, conversations, and memories -- making lasting friendships, including with a delegation of Members of Parliament from Italy who visited his home on Independence Day. The MPs stayed till late in night, enjoying the most American of holidays, with a cook-out, fireworks and lively conversation.

Faris has also taken part in reverse exchanges, independently and with Global Ties Detroit missions to many places around the world, including Belarus, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia and Uzbekistan to engage local entrepreneurs and leaders, working to increase understanding through citizen diplomacy:

“This work is so important to see what a wonderful world we live in and so many amazing people from all around the world. It helps build bridges and better understanding among nations. Citizen diplomacy is also the most powerful way to engage the world by opening our businesses, homes and hearts. I am honored to be able to serve in this capacity and it's clear that this work has been done by amazing people before me. I look forward to keeping this work up and ensuring that we continue this momentum going into our 50th anniversary."

In the course of his career, Faris has been a special advisor and Entrepreneurial Ecosystem expert with the World Bank, a Business Advisor with Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program, and a Mentor to MBA Students and Entrepreneurs globally. Facilitating economic and workforce development programs on entrepreneurship, small/medium enterprise development, mentorship, and funding, Faris works with high-ranking officials—presidents of countries, ministries, universities, incubators/accelerators, and economic development groups. He also leads the ISM team in supporting entrepreneurs in underserved communities in finding success.

“As we celebrate Global Ties Detroit's 50th anniversary this year, we are thrilled that Faris Alami will be leading the Board of Directors as Chairman. Faris' expertise in entrepreneurship and business development, his local, national, and international experience and connections, and his passion for global exchange and commitment citizen diplomacy will build upon our successes in recent years. Our organization has been fortunate to have strong and steady Board leadership and that has paved the way for Global Ties Detroit  to increase its positive impact in SE Michigan and around the world. We are thankful for Faris' time, knowledge and contributions and look forward to his insightful leadership in this special anniversary year,” says Global Ties Detroit President Marian Reich
