    Global Ties Detroit Welcomes Fareed Y. Shalhout to Board of Directors

    Global Ties Detroit is pleased to welcome Fareed Y. Shalhout to our Board of Directors. 

    Fareed Y. Shalhout is the Associate Director of Student Programs for Educational Outreach and the Office of International Programs at Wayne State University. In this role, Fareed is responsible for the developing, planning, and executing federally funded short-term programs through sponsors such as the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State, Institute of International Education (IIE), and International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX). Fareed manages a budget portfolio for these programs.

    Fareed is responsible for developing and managing relationships with a variety of embassies He is responsible for international recruitment efforts for both undergraduate and graduate students. He is the liaison between Wayne State University and incoming Fulbright student applicants. 

    Additionally, Fareed is responsible for developing student success programs for international students and is the main contact for international students for non-immigration related matters. He manages a team of student support liaisons. 

    Prior to joining this division, Fareed held the role as the Orientation Coordinator under the Division of Student Success. Fareed is actively involved in several professional organizations and on several campus committees. Fareed is committed to student success and has extensive background and experience in student support services. 

    Fareed received his B.A. in Health Policy Studies from University of Michigan-Dearborn and a M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Western Michigan University. 

    Welcome, Fareed! We look forward to partnering with you and Wayne State University on international exchange programs, including the Young African Leaders Initiative this summer.
