Detroit EXCEEDS Ukrainian Business Leaders expectations!
    July 01, 2025

Global Ties Detroit hosted 3 fellows participating in the UBL PIE program. These fellows were placed with local business and organizations to be exposed to sound business practices, leadership skills, and networking opportunities that will position them as leaders to effect change in their businesses and communities!

Attending and participating in everything that Detroit has to offer, our Ukrainian Business Leaders Promoting Innovation & Entrepreneurship (UBL PIE) fellows were quite surprised with what Detroit had to offer. UBL fellow, Anatolii, stated how “(upon arriving) I had mixed feelings. But the more time I spent in the city of Detroit, the more I fell in love with it…Beautiful buildings, friendly people, nice vibe, and countless places to explore.”

During their time here, the UBL PIE fellows experienced nearly everything that Detroit has to offer! Our program coordinators did an amazing job organizing affairs for our group!

“The intensity of the program and the sheer number of events far exceeded my expectations! I've seen and done so much already that it's hard to single out just a few highlights.”

They were given opportunities to hit the ground running once they stepped off the plane! Opportunities include a visit to Hamtramck’s Ukrainian Community, Cranbrook’s Art Gallery, a yacht tour on the Detroit River, and even just experiencing the vast amount of fun Downtown Detroit offers!

Our UBL PIE fellows attended a Detroit Tigers game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, where they witnessed and felt the atmosphere of a Tigers win!

Anatolii stated “[The Tigers game was] an unforgettable experience! The stadium atmosphere was amazing. Since we don’t have baseball in Ukraine, this felt especially unique.”

The group visited Dearborn and experienced the Rouge Factory, where they produced the F-150! Our UBL PIE group stated that their experience was “Absolutely outstanding! The F-150 presentation is a must-see if you're visiting Dearborn.” Followed up by a tour of the historic Henry Ford Innovation Museum and Greenfield Village!

UBL fellows also met with members of the Mandela Washington Fellowship hosted in collaboration with Wayne State where they met with a lot of great people, as well as having a roundtable discussion at BasBlue where they met with various board members of Global Ties Detroit and those who work very closely to help us facilitate diplomacy!

Their visit was wrapped up with a farewell dinner at Steve Rybicki’s beautiful home in Grosse Pointe Farms and a final trip to Detroit Institute of Arts!

We want to thank all of those involved in this process! Huge shoutout to Anastasia, Vlad & Anatolii! You will be missed!

“Living and working in Detroit for nearly a month has been a unique opportunity — one that was worth every minute spent applying to become part of the UBL PIE 2025 cohort!”
