Global Ties Detroit names Rosemary Max of Oakland University the 2024 Board Chair

Global Ties Detroit is excited to announce the election of our new 2024 Board Chair Rosemary Max, Executive Director of the Office of Global Engagement at Oakland University. Rosemary has been a vital member on Global Ties Detroit’s board since 2019. Rosemary has an extensive background of leading the offices of international and global studies departments at numerous universities including The University of Notre Dame, Michigan State University, and her current position as Director of the Office of Global Engagement at Oakland University. During her time on the board Rosemary has served as a mentor to international fellows, a professional resource for numerous global delegations at Oakland University, and a sponsor of our biggest event of the year, the Annual Dinner.
“When I moved to the Detroit area in 2018, one of the first organizations that welcomed me was Global Ties Detroit. I felt an immediate affinity with this group of people who believed in global engagement and in showing off Detroit to the world. When I became a board member I was able to see, up close, the hard work of Marian and her team. They have a laser focus on welcoming international visitors to our city and region and engaging our neighbors, friends and colleagues in citizen diplomacy,”
Rosemary has had a life-long interest in international relations. She advocates for this interest through internationalization in higher education. As we bring on Rosemary as our new Board Chair, former Board Chair of 2 years Faris Alami is eager to see Rosemary’s greater impact on Global Ties Detroit.
“It has been a privilege and honor serving as the board chair for Global Ties Detroit, collaborating with dedicated board members, both on the executive committee and the broader board, along with the staff, our supporters, and the vibrant community. Our visitors have played a crucial role in making our programs a success, providing me with an incredible and fulfilling experience as I contributed strategically to the organization's growth and direction. Rosemary's background will bring significant value to the organization, and I eagerly anticipate serving alongside her on the board,” says Faris.
Global Ties Detroit is eager for Rosemary’s guidance and leadership through her expertise and passion for global diplomacy especially in Detroit.
“Detroit is both a great American city and has international DNA. The work of Global Ties is a direct match for this. As I take up the role of Board Chair I can't think of a better organization to promote Detroit and the United States to the world.”
